Year 7 Dive into Reading with Bookbuzz!
This week, our Year 7 students have been enjoying a fantastic experience in the Library, thanks to the brilliant Bookbuzz programme, run by BookTrust.
Bookbuzz is a national initiative designed to inspire a love of reading in young people. At HAB, we’re proud to take part each year, giving our new Year 7 cohort the chance to explore a wide selection of exciting, age-appropriate books. What makes Bookbuzz truly special is that each student gets to choose one book to keep—not for the school library, but for their own personal collection, helping them begin their very own secondary school library at home.
We believe that continuing the reading journey into secondary school is vital. At HAB, reading is not only celebrated as a key academic skill, but also as a powerful tool for personal growth. Reading for pleasure helps students to:
- Discover new worlds and ideas
- Understand and express emotions
- Build empathy for others
- Support their mental wellbeing
The Bookbuzz project encourages students to talk about books with their classmates, share opinions, and take ownership of their reading choices. It’s a joyful way to promote independence and confidence in reading, and to remind students that reading is something to be enjoyed—not just studied.
We’re thrilled to see our Year 7s so engaged, and we look forward to seeing how their reading journeys continue to grow throughout the year.
