Harris Federation Sports Day 2018 - Students' Report

Mariam, Year 7, writes about her first Harris Federation Sports Day.

"On our trip to sports day at Crystal Palace Stadium last week, Year 7 were really nervous as it was their first time at a Harris Federation sports day.

When we got there, it was quite cold and the sun didn't come out until later. The competitors who represented Year 7 were Nabila, Grace, Naira, Mariama, Mariam, Malahat, Deborah and Aisha.

This trip was a great experience for us because we got to learn different tactics from people depending on their event. In the events, we tried our best and tried to have as much fun as we could at the same time. In total, Year 7 won five medals. In discus, Malahat came for 4th, in javelin Naira came 4th.

Nabila, who did 800m, came 1st overall and received a gold medal. Nabila showed great leadership skills during training making her build her confidence as well as endurance. We are all really proud of her.

And in the relay race, Mariam, Aisha, Grace, and Deborah came 3rd receiving a bronze medal. "We hope when we come back next year that we win more medals and hopefully place 1st place in the relay!" they said.

To all the other competitors who competed but didn't place in the top three, we are really happy you came this far after qualifying to be at Crystal Palace and we hope with our support that you place next year!"

Nabila, Year 7, writes...

"This sports day was amazing. Although our school wasn't there to support us, due to coach complications, we knew they were in our hearts.

The experience the Harris Federation give us is outstanding. To have organised something so big with over 10,000 PEOPLE is just too good to be true. Having won a gold I feel proud of myself especially for 800m but ALL the competitors showed courage and determination which in itself is an achievement.

Although we might've not have won a lot of medals, next year we will come back better and stronger, and that's a FACT."

HAB Dance Company performs at sports day

This was our wonderful Year 10s final Harris Federation Sports Day at Crystal Palace Sports Stadium and boy did we go out with a bang! The Year 7s experienced their very first performance with the Harris Academy Bermondsey Dance Company (HABDaCo) and absolutely smashed it.

HAB sports day

This special group of young women embraced who they are by holding up their flags at the end of the performance and stood strong and confident as young women.

I am incredibly #ProudToBeHAB of the HAB dancers.
