Student Leadership

Student Leadership Opportunities at Harris Academy Bermondsey

At Harris Academy Bermondsey, we believe in empowering our students to develop their leadership potential and contribute positively to the school community. Through a variety of leadership opportunities, students gain valuable experience, build important skills, and make a lasting impact within the academy and beyond. These roles encourage personal growth, responsibility, and active participation in school life.

  • Prefects: Selected student leaders from Year 10 who uphold the academy’s values, assist with maintaining discipline, and help organise school events. Prefects serve as role models for their peers, demonstrating leadership and responsibility, while donning a distinct blazer provided by the academy.

  • HAB Government: Elected representatives who advocate for their peers, gather feedback, and collaborate with school leadership on decisions that impact the school. The HAB Government fosters a sense of democracy, empowering students to have a voice in shaping their school experience.

  • Student Ambassadors: Volunteer students who represent the academy at events, school tours, and outreach activities. Ambassadors provide a welcoming presence for visitors, share insights about the school, and embody the values of Harris Academy Bermondsey.

  • Peer Mentors: Trained students who offer guidance and emotional support to their peers, particularly in areas of academic performance, social integration, and well-being. Peer Mentors play an important role in creating an inclusive and supportive school environment.

  • Mental Health Ambassadors: Students with a strong understanding of mental health, neurodiversity, and hidden disabilities. They work collaboratively with staff and students to promote mental health awareness, equality, and inclusivity throughout the school community.

Each of these leadership roles at Harris Academy Bermondsey helps students develop key life skills such as communication, teamwork, and empathy, while making meaningful contributions to their school and peers.
