Trailblazing Residential Trip For Year 7

Our weekend away at Kingwood Outdoor Activity Centre was a wonderful opportunity to help our new Year 7 students with their transition into Key Stage 3.

The trip provided students with the opportunity to develop their resilience, risk-taking and team-building skills, among other areas of personal development. For some, this was their first residential experience, due to not being able to go on trips in Year 5 or 6 because of the pandemic.

The Leap of Faith activity allowed for meaningful discussions with students about how not to allow fear to hold us back and students were able to apply these thoughts to scenarios within an academic setting too.

Jacob's Ladder was about teamwork, which we displayed in abundance! While the Nightline challenge was a real test of resilience; students had a very muddy experience on our final day, offering an opportunity for character building and taking part in activities outside of their comfort zone.

What the students said...

"My experience on the Kingswood trip was amazing! We had our own dorms and did all sorts of activities such as Leap of Faith and Jacob's Ladder. We also had a fantastic time eating the delicious food at dinner time. Breakfast was the best meal as we had a variety of choices and each and every one of those were spectacular. My favourite part of the trip was being with my friends and being able to grow stronger friendships." Destiny, Year 7

"The activities were very fun and exciting. Something that I really liked out of everything was definitely the campfire - it was super fun and I had the best time. I also had lots of fun in our dorm with my friend Leia. Overall Kingswood was amazing, and I had the best time ever with all my friends and I will never forget it." Hadia, Year 7

"My experience on the trip was really fun, I enjoyed myself a lot. I loved the activity where we were blindfolded, and we had to walk through mud. The food was nice, I love the burgers and how they let us pick what we want. I liked how they gave us a salad/fruit bar and a big breakfast to the start of the day. Overall, I had the best time, and I would definitely come again." Annabelle, Year 7

The bedrooms are nice and you usually share with one person, but you could get more. The gift shop is nice. You can get plushies, stationery, drinks, snacks and a few more things. Overall, the Kingswood trip was brilliant and the mentors are nice too. It is a fun enjoyable place to go." Evelyn, Year 7

"The trip was incredibly fun! The coach ride was fun and when we arrived we did a climbing activity called Jacob's Ladder where we climbed a wobbly ladder. Although it was cold, I found it so exciting. We then had dinner which was burgers and chips. We got our dorms and hung out with our room mates. The next day we did different climbing activities called Leap of Faith, where we climbed up a pole and jumped down. We wore a harness - and finally we did a muddy obstacle course called Nightline and we got so very muddy but overall it was a fun experience." Fatima, Year 7
