Students Represent Cuba and Haiti at Model United Nations

HAB6 students Amina, Lilo, Wiam, Tiffany, Najma, Kandia and Heyabel participated in the Royal Russell Model United Nations (MUN), representing Cuba and Haiti, in October 2022.

Model United Nations brings together students from around the world to simulate real UN committees and discussions. Royal Russell MUN was the first British school to set up an annual MUN conference, 40 years ago.

Our students were truly ambassadors for our school's ethos and values. Students attended the conference for four days, accompanied by Ms Leontiou and Ms Lewis, and participated in debating, formed allies and finally wrote resolutions concerning important topics such as:

  • the expansion of NATO
  • state-sponsored espionage and cybercrime
  • pollution caused by mineral mining for electric vehicles
  • Covid recovery in less developed countries
  • abortion rights
  • and migration rights of refugees.

We are really proud of them and look forward to hearing about their experience at the Scotland Model United Nations in March 2023. Students are also facilitating a HAB internal Model United Nations conference on the 6th of December, giving younger students the opportunity to engage with worldwide topics.
