By Mushtaq with special help from Gloria.

The Year 7 football squad is made up of 20 incredibly talented footballers who are divided into two teams. Thy students have represented Harris Academy Bermondsey in a series of tournaments and competition.

The squad had a great experience visiting a beautiful place called Esher when they took part in the English Schools FA Competition

When the squad took part in the English Football League for Girls, they made it to the 3rd round and they won their most recent tournament.

In order for the squad to participate in such competitions they have to train incredibly hard on Tuesdays and Thursdays to improve their:

  • Fitness
  • Technical Skills
  • Ball Mastery
  • Team Tactics

When asked how it feels to play in tournaments, Shardonae replied: “It feels really good because I get a chance to play against other schools.”

When asked how it feels to be a part of the HAB football team, Mayeda replied: “It feels amazing! This is a vital opportunity to be able to get better at my football skills. It is also a dream come true to be able to play the majority of the HAB matches.”

Ms Kelly, the coach said: "The Year 7 footballers have been a pleasure to coach; they have all shown incredible commitment, training twice per week throughout the autumn and spring term. All girls have demonstrated a genuine desire to develop and improve their football skills. It is also lovely to see that students are also developing transferrable soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership. The club also allows students to develop confidence and self-esteem and strengthens us as a HAB community. In the future we hope to build a girl's football academy, which would allow students access to train outside of term time and compete against other local teams on weekends."
