Bugsy Malone Cast List Announced

Bugsy 3We had an incredible turn out of students for the Bugsy Malone auditions. The auditions took place over three days and included:

  • an intense dance workshop where girls truly supported one another whilst learning the challenging routine as well as cheering one another one when performing in groups of four
  • a vocal audition in which girls had to learn a song from Bugsy and perform it (uncovering some truly hidden singing talent across all year groups)
  • and finally an acting audition where students prepared small extracts from the musical and performed them with great confidence.

A particular highlight was the the number of year 7s who had nailed the New York accent perfectly! In total we had over 200 girls auditioning which gave us a total headache trying to cast the show, considering how impressed we were with the calibre of auditionees. We're proud of every one of you!

Cast announced

Ms Sillars, Ms Abraham and myself deliberated and debated for close to four hours to figure out the cast which was then announced on Wednesday by being displayed on the Drama Noticeboard.

I would describe the students as almost ‘swarming’ around the corridor to see the results (with some students even trying to sneak to the toilet during their lesson to catch a glimpse, once word got out the names were up!).

We have our first whole cast rehearsal tomorrow (Friday) where we will be warming up those vocal chords and learning our first whole cast song ‘Fat Sam’s Grand Slam’ which we will be previewing at the Year 6 open evening on the 21st June. Rehearsals will continue 2-3 times a week from now until the performances on the 17th and 18th July.

We will be performing with a live band made up of our fantastic music teachers and students (as well as a few non-music subject teachers who also have some hidden musical instrument talents).

Choosing from 200 fantastic auditioning students is not easy!
