French Linguistics Taster Day at University of Westminster
Thirteen students across Years 8-11 visited the University of Westminster recently to attend a French Linguistics Taster Day.
They listened to four interactive lectures delivered by scholars from across the country. The day was a fantastic opportunity for our students, who are all French heritage speakers, to explore the perceptions towards different French accents and compare them phonetically.
The lectures addressed current affairs and provided an in-depth introduction to linguistics and how French language works and varies from one place to another in the world, which provided an appreciation of diversity.
HAB students were confident to make contributions and were outstanding ambassadors of our school.
“Normally I don’t take into consideration that French is spoken by many different countries so today gave me insight into the differences in the types of French spoken by people across the world”, said Sakina, Year 11.
