Prize Giving 2019 - Celebrating Academic Excellence

Our fifth annual prize-giving took place at Clothworkers’ Hall in the City of London on Monday 25th November.

The event is one of the highlights of the school year and celebrates academic achievement, with prizes awarded to the top students in each subject, in each year group.

“Praising and celebrating success is a very important part of the HAB ethos and it's always a pleasure to welcome students, their parents and family to such a special and happy occasion," said Principal Rebecca Iles-Smith.

Welcoming back alumni

This year we also welcomed back two former HAB sixth formers, Dilan and Tamar, who took time away from their university studies to speak to our award-winners.

Dilan is studying Political Science at City University while Tamar studies Law at Warwick University.

"It's always a pleasure welcoming back former students who are now at university but still HAB girls in spirit!" said Assistant Principal Lyndsay Harris. "It's tremendously valuable for current HAB girls to see people like themselves on stage – people from their own area and background to whom they can relate and seek to emulate."

Community awards

Two students received special awards for their exceptional contribution to the HAB community. Nancy (pictured below) received the Karen Harrild Award for Community while Chantoi was awarded the Roger Hiskey Award for Leadership.

As a student leader, Nancy could always be relied upon to lead visitors with confidence, enthusiasm and boundless energy, whilst at the same time embodying the ethos of care and compassion that she showed to fellow students, both her age and younger.

Chantoi demonstrated a fearless personality that would result in huge success, throwing herself into every opportunity that was available to her. We are delighted that she is now studying Ancient and Modern History at Balliol College, Oxford.

The awards were created to celebrate Mrs Harrild and Mr Hiskey, long-standing members of the HAB community, who both retired from teaching in 2017.
