GCSE Results 2019 - Celebrating Success
Students at Harris Academy Bermondsey are celebrating another successful year for GCSE results, after nearly one girl in three achieved at least one grade 9, the highest possible grade.
Overall, 61 per cent of students achieved five GCSEs including English and Maths and more than half of students achieved the challenging EBacc – twice the most recent national average.
Forty one students (nearly one third) achieved at least one Grade 9, equivalent to an A**. In total, students achieved 93 Grade 9s, including 42 in English.
Our students also featured in the Evening Standard and Southwark News during their coverage of results day.
Several HAB girls achieved remarkable individual success too, including Shelly, who achieved nine Grade 9s, and an A in A-Level Chinese, which she sat early. Other success stories included Tulika, who achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s, and Esther, who gained five Grade 9s and four Grade 8.
Gabriela (pictured above) achieved very impressive full marks in her English Literature papers, securing a top Grade 9, which she also matched for English Language exams.
Principal Rebecca Iles-Smith said: “Well done to each and every one of our girls on their fantastic GCSE results.
“They have excelled across a breadth of subjects and should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved – these results are truly well-deserved.”
She added that she was ‘particularly proud’ that the school had bucked a national trend of languages decline, with all students taking a foreign language, and also added special praise for a strong showing in the school’s sciences subjects.
