Royal Navy Careers Day for PE Students
PE students took part in a careers taster day hosted by the Royal Navy in Blackheath recently. The day provided an insight into senior roles undertaken by women in the Royal Navy and celebrated International Women’s Day as well.
The girls were chosen to represent HAB for their commitment in PE. We wanted to show them that the excellent communication and emerging leadership skills they continually demonstrate in lessons are crucial workplace skills too.
The day was divided into a series of presentations, demonstrations and interactive tasks. The girls were really inspired to meet and undertake tasks with the female Naval officers. They listened intently to the officers' experiences and advice and were thrilled to be central to the organisation of the day.
The organisers were particularly impressed with our HAB Year 9 students, as they were excellent ambassadors for the school showing great engagement, enthusiasm and curiosity. The academy has now made vital work-related connections with the Royal Navy and expect our more opportunities in future through their engagement team.

What students said...
“This trip has inspired others around us because we are able to see that the Royal Navy is not mainly dominated by men – there are women who are currently within this force that are constantly striving and doing great things. This has truly inspired our group as it broadened our knowledge of the Royal Navy and how women are also permitted to do multiple jobs. Due to this, we are considering joining the Navy as it will be a great opportunity to aid our country and others, plus work hard for something we enjoy, whether that is being a submariner or a doctor.” Amal, Tracy, Taiwo
“Overall, this was an amazing experience and I loved every bit of it.” Amy
“I liked how we were told about different job roles, and all the different skills you learnt for each position. Did you know that every single Navy personnel is trained to Level 3 in both First Aid and Fire Fighting? They get to travel around the world. What I liked best was the engineering project where we completed - a really challenging Physics task on a Landing Gear Circuit board. Finally, everyone we met was really confident and knowledgeable about their jobs. But they were very approachable and nice to speak to. I learnt so much!” Jewel
