Year 7 Discover Their Next Great Read with Bookbuzz!

Year 7 Discover Their Next Great Read with Bookbuzz!

This week, our Year 7 students have been enjoying a fantastic experience in the Library thanks to the brilliant Bookbuzz programme, run by BookTrust.

Bookbuzz is a national initiative designed to inspire a love of reading in young people. At HAB, we're proud to take part each year, giving our new Year 7 cohort the chance to explore a wide selection of exciting, age-appropriate books. What makes Bookbuzz truly special is that every student gets to choose a book of their own to keep, helping them begin to build a personal library at home and continue their reading journey beyond the classroom.

This year's collection has generated plenty of excitement, with students eagerly browsing the selection and discussing their favourites with friends. Some of the books attracting the most attention include Always, Angel by Kimberly Whittam, People Like Stars by Patrice Lawrence, Cringe Club by Emily-Jane Clark, and Murder Academy: Lessons in Death by Sophie McKenzie. With such a diverse range of stories on offer, there is something to appeal to every reader.

We believe that continuing the reading journey into secondary school is vital. At HAB, reading is not only celebrated as a key academic skill but also as a powerful tool for personal growth. Reading for pleasure helps students to:

  • Discover new worlds and ideas
  • Understand and express emotions
  • Build empathy for others
  • Support their mental wellbeing
  • Develop confidence and independence

The Bookbuzz project encourages students to talk about books with their classmates, share recommendations and take ownership of their reading choices. It's a joyful way to promote a reading culture across the year group and to remind students that reading is something to be enjoyed, not just studied.

Happy reading, Year 7!
