Being uncompromising yet caring is at the heart of all we do. We have unapologetically high expectations of the girls in our care and the staff who teach and support them.

This is set against a backdrop of being relentlessly bothered about the well-being, progress and success of our academy body.

From day one we ensure that our students and staff have every opportunity to develop their skills and talents.

The continuous professional development of our staff ensures that the teaching our girls receive is of the highest quality and tailored to meeting their needs. We also maximise opportunities for learning outside of the classroom through trips, visits, theme days and career guidance that opens our students’ minds to the possibilities and opportunities open to them.

Progression to the our highly successful HAB6 Sixth Form allows our girls pursue academic and/or vocational courses of their choice which will further support them in their next steps to university or pursuing an apprenticeship.

Our girls are happy, safe and successful in our care and we are all very #ProudToBeHAB.

Bermondsey Puppet and Storytelling Festival 2026 📚

We are delighted to share that some year 7 HAB students will be taking part in the exciting Bermondsey Puppet and Storytelling Festival 2026, a new family-friendly programme of free puppet-making and storytelling workshops taking place across Bermondsey from 16 May to 12 July.

As part of the festival, professional storytellers and puppeteers Minnie Wilkinson and Simon Lyson will be visiting HAB on 24th June for a creative two-hour workshop. During the session, pupils will enjoy interactive storytelling activities and create their own puppets, learning how stories can be brought to life through imagination, performance, and art.

The school workshops form part of a wider community celebration, with local families invited to attend a series of free evening and weekend public workshops throughout the festival. These sessions will give families the opportunity to make puppets together, hear stories from around the world, and explore puppetry with experienced artists.

The festival will culminate in a free outdoor celebration at Bermondsey Spa Gardens on Sunday 12th July, where community-made puppets will appear alongside performances by professional storytellers and puppeteers.

We are very pleased for our pupils to be involved in this creative community project and look forward to seeing their wonderful puppet creations.
