Students celebrate outstanding exam results at Harris Academy Bermondsey

Students across Harris Academy Bermondsey are celebrating an excellent set of exam results, with strong performances at both A level and GCSE and students securing places at leading universities across the UK.

At A level, nearly half of all entries were awarded an A*, A or B, with students going on to study a wide range of subjects at universities including UCL, Cardiff, Queen Mary University of London and Nottingham.

Among those celebrating was Matilda, who achieved an A* in Chemistry and A grades in Biology and Psychology. She will begin studying Human Neuroscience at UCL next month.

Matilda said: “I am really proud of myself, and I want to thank everyone who helped me get this far.”

There was further cause for celebration as the academy’s Year 11 students collected their GCSE results. Students achieved strong passes in English and Maths, well above both last year’s national average and the average for Southwark, while more than a third of all exams were awarded a Grade 7 or higher.

Among the academy’s highest-performing GCSE students was Rafiat, who achieved an exceptional nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8. She was closely followed by Mareen, who secured six Grade 9s and five Grade 8s.

Gloria is also celebrating an excellent set of results after persevering through significant health challenges and undergoing surgery during both Year 10 and Year 11. She achieved a Grade 9 in Chemistry; Grade 8s in Mathematics, Physics and Spanish; Grade 7s in English Literature, Geography and RS; and Grade 6s in Biology and English Language.

Performance was particularly strong in Music, English, Spanish and French, where more than three-quarters of students achieved strong passes.

“I am immensely proud of all our students and everything they have achieved. Across Year 11 and the Sixth Form, they have worked incredibly hard, not just in the run-up to their exams but throughout their time at Harris Academy Bermondsey, and they thoroughly deserve their success.

“It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces as students collected their results. Our Sixth Form students are now heading off to some very exciting and prestigious university courses, while our Year 11 girls have achieved a fantastic set of GCSE results.

“A huge thank you must also go to our incredibly dedicated staff, whose support, encouragement and commitment have played such an important part in these achievements. We are extremely proud of our students and look forward to seeing what they go on to achieve next.”
