Words for Work: Year 12 Shine with Confidence

Words for Work: Year 12 Shine with Confidence

Year 12 students have been making waves through the Words for Work project, run by the National Literacy Trust. Designed to boost oracy skills, build confidence, and prepare young people for the world of work, the programme was nothing short of transformative.

The journey began with three lively sessions in school. First, students explored verbal and non‑verbal communication skills, discovering how tone, eye contact, and gestures can make words truly powerful. Next came the art of the elevator pitch, where they learned how to sell themselves with clarity and impact. By the final school session, students were confidently delivering their pitches, proving that preparation and practice unlock real self‑belief.

The programme concluded with an inspiring immersion day at PwC’s More London office. Students met professionals, asked insightful questions about their roles, and took part in a workshop on the STAR method for interviews. They then put their skills to the test, practicing pitches and interviews with PwC volunteers, who offered constructive feedback.

The feedback was glowing: volunteers praised the students’ eloquence, approachability, and precise examples—qualities employers value highly. Many who once felt nervous about interviews left the project feeling empowered, confident, and ready to take on the working world
