Year 7 Humanities
Humanities, includes the disciplines of History, Geography, Citizenship and Religious Studies.
 
What will they study?
The aim of the Humanities subject area is to create a holistic learning environment for Year 7 students. This will help to contextualise the key skills of the subjects, in an invigorating cross curricular setting that relates to students’ own experiences of the world.
 
The Humanities subject area delivers lessons across Year 7 incorporating the academy’s enterprise and media skills, personal learning and thinking skills combined with real world learning to prepare students for Key Stage 4 courses.
The lessons will be thematic, with key skills being delivered through the concepts of the various subject areas within each theme.
 
Students will begin the year investigating who they are and their roots. They will go on to explore themes such as equality and globalisation.

How the work is assessed
 
Students are assessed at the end of each term to QCA levels. These are 1 to 8 with 8 being the highest.
 
Homework
How often is it set?
Once a week. Students have one week to complete it.
 
What sorts of activities are set?             
Questionnaires, newspaper reports, poetry, cartoon strips, plays, stories etc.
 
How can parent/carer help?
Students should do homework on the day it is set. Check their work and see if they
understand it. You could write a comment on how well you think they have done.
 
Other ways parent/carer can help
  • Support students in undertaking research
  • Discuss themes with students, share your own experiences
  • Ensure Homework is completed
