Girls Collect 7,000 Items for Crisis at Christmas
Our Crisis at Christmas donations drive for 2017 has been incredibly successful. We beat our target of collecting 5000 items with girls bringing in more than 7,000 items over the two week collection challenge.
Girls collected items colouring pencils, paint (watercolours and acrylic), paintbrushes, sponges (for washing up), cleaning cloths, aluminium foil, aprons and tea towels. Our Year 11 Student Charity Commission ran the drive and met with a member of Crisis recently to hand over the items, which will all be used at the charity's centres over the Christmas period.
"The commission supported younger girls by telling them where to buy items and at what cost," said Acting Co-Principal Rebecca Iles-Smith. "They spoke to tutor groups and in assemblies, wrote a letter to parents and carers, emailed their teachers and spent time physically counting and organising the items for collection. We're incredibly proud of what they have done, in such a short time, to improve the lives of so many people who are suffering at the hands of the very worst effects of poverty this Christmas."
