Sam Sedgman

During his visit, Sam led two fabulous author workshops with two lucky Year 8 classes. These workshops were an absolute treat for our students! Sam shared his expertise on the seven key conventions of a mystery story, guiding our young writers through the intricate process of crafting an exceptional tale.

Together, they delved into the art of storytelling, exploring how to structure a narrative to captivate readers from start to finish. With Sam's expert guidance, our students learnt how to hook readers, build suspense, and provide a satisfying resolution, a truly invaluable lesson for budding writers!

The workshops provided a unique opportunity for our students to engage directly with a bestselling author. Sam generously shared his experiences and insights, giving our students a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of professional writing. From the realities of being a full-time author to the creative process behind crafting compelling stories, our students had the chance to ask loads of questions and gain invaluable knowledge.

The workshops were a resounding success, leaving our students feeling inspired and empowered to unleash their creativity. armed with the newfound skills and inspiration from their time with Sam Sedgman, we cannot wait to see the marvellous stories that our Year 8 students will write in their next library lesson.

Sam's visit was made possible by the National Literacy Trust through their fantastic Young Mystery Writer's project! This exciting program aims to dive into the world of mysteries, unlocking the creativity of young minds by exploring the magic of language and ideas. It's all about having fun while discovering how the mystery genre works.

At HAB, we're committed to providing enriching experiences that ignite a passion for learning and creativity.
