Staff Give Books to Girls for World Book Day
Every member of staff had a chance to give away a book of their choice to a girl of their choice today, to help mark World Book Day.
Music teacher Kirsty Sillars (pictured right dressed as Charlie Brown for World Book Day), decided to give a copy of Martin Luther King, Jr: A Dream of Hope, by Alice Mulcahey Fleming, to Kabirah, Year 7.
"I chose this book because girls studied a rap song based on Martin Luther King Jr’s 'I have a dream speech' as part of the ‘Rhythm and Pulse’ topic in music," said Ms Sillars.
"Kabirah is a keen musician and offered some interesting insights into her take on the song. I hope this book allows her to learn more about the topic in time for her history lessons surrounding the 1960s civil rights movement and Jim Crow laws. She was very happy to receive the book and said she was having a really lovely World Book Day."
The great book giveaway was made possible by a grant of £250 from the National Literacy Trust.
