OCR National Level 2 Certificate in Media
This is an exciting three-year course through which students can learn how media products are made, analyse their composition and meaning, and learn a wide range of practical media skills.
The mass media plays an increasingly important role in contemporary society, providing us with information and entertainment. In addition to this, the media plays an important role in shaping attitudes and social values. This course is designed to enable students to develop a critical understanding of the role of mass media in society. It also enables students to understand the processes involved in the planning, production and the distribution of media products.
An important feature of the specification is the relationship between theoretical understanding and the development of practical skills.
The course offers opportunities to develop new skills in a range of media modules:
Media Modules:
    Television and Video Production
    Sound and Radio Production
    Print production
    Photography and Lighting
    Advertising
    Writing Copy
    Research & Analysis
    Understanding and Application of theory
    Safe Working practices
    File Conversions/ Storing, Saving and Indexing work
 
Our students work on 2 platforms:
·     Apple Macs and PC’s 
 
Software Packages:
Students are taught to use a range of software packages confidently to produce their own media products, such as:
·     Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, Garage Band & Photo Booth.
Students will have opportunities to learn about real media products and industries, and there will be opportunities for progression, especially to ALevel Media Studies or Level 3 Creative and Media Diploma.
Method of Assessment:
100% coursework
