Drama is a social subject that is very popular throughout the different year groups in the Academy. The department is committed to the students learning and using the explorative strategies and elements of Drama to explore different characters, issues and environments.

“I like Drama because it boosts your confidence and it helps prepare you for everyday life.”
Students are encouraged to watch live performances. Regular trips are organised for Key Stage 4 students as part of their qualifications in Drama and acting.

KS3 curriculum

Year 7
Through the introduction of the following drama techniques: Freeze-frame, Mime, Improvisation, Role-Play, Narration, Teacher in Role, Hidden Thought, Hotseating, Presentations and Evaluation, students will develop performance skills and understanding of Drama.

Year 8
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of Drama by devising, script work, scriptwriting as well as exploring a range of stimuli with new strategies to deepen their learning. 
 
KS4 curriculum

Year 9 & Year 10
Exam Board: Edexcel Level 2 Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Acting)
Equivalent of two GCSE’s
All class work and homework is coursework therefore attendance is mandatory.

Year 11
Exam Board: Edexcel Drama GCSE (2DR01)
Students will complete their Paper 1 by October, Paper 2 in November and begin to prepare for their final practical exam Paper 3in December (a devised/scripted performance) which will be where possible performed before the Easter holidays.
