Spanish

Following a course in GCSE Spanish encourages students to derive enjoyment and benefit from language learning, and be inspired, moved and changed by following a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study. Students continue their language from KS3 to KS4 and we recognise the importance of studying language as part of the EBacc curriculum. Learners recognise that their linguistic knowledge, understanding and skills help them to take place in a multilingual global society and also provide them with a suitable basis for further study and practical use of the language.

Year 7

Students learn to use the target language from the outset.  This is achieved through routines, games and songs.  Students develop their language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing and learn pronunciation and fluency through pair and group work. Students will learn the basics of grammar conjugation so they are able to talk about different people in the present tense. Students are required to produce extended pieces of writing which include a variety of vocabulary, tenses as well as different grammatical structures. Developing a knowledge of French culture is embedded in the curriculum.
