HAB Girls Win Medals in Chemistry Olympiad
Two of our Chemistry sixth formers have won medals in the UK's leading chemistry competition for secondary students, putting them in the top 3% of students nationwide.
The UK Chemistry Olympiad, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, is the leading chemistry competition for secondary students.
The content is far beyond that of the A Level specification, requiring problem-solving skills and a creative flair to apply fundamental chemistry principles to real-world situations. Schools enter their brightest students, indeed only the top 10% of A Level pupils complete the first stage of the competition.
Not letting a pandemic stand in their way, two of our Post 16 students entered Round 1 and both secured medals, putting them in the top 30% of all entries and the uppermost 3% of chemistry students in the UK.
Maryam secured a Bronze award and Shelly a Silver award, a fantastic achievement for our chemists who competed with pupils from both the state and independent sector across the UK.
We are incredibly proud of our chemists being the first HAB girls to not only enter the prestigious competition but to win awards. They have paved the way for future HAB Chemistry Olympians.
