"My First Term at Cambridge," by former HAB Girl, Korede
We asked former HAB girl Korede to tell us about her first term at Jesus College, Cambridge, where she is studying philosophy.
Cambridge is a lot different than I expected. On the first day, my Philosophy director of studies was telling us to prepare ourselves for how tough the course is going to be. Every week I have a 2000-word essay plus five readings to complete, but I'm on my third week and it's getting a lot easier to do. I had an essay on political philosophy and anarchism and I managed to discuss the End SARS movement in the essay, which was really cool.

Aside from work, my flatmates are amazing! I feel like it's a nice mix of people from different backgrounds. More generally it's definitely been a lot harder to make friends (especially black friends) because of the pandemic and societies being online, but I'm making more effort to leave my college and socialise more. I met the master of Jesus College, who is a black woman and she also studied philosophy which we love to see.
“Thank you, Ms Senior”
I wanted to say thank you to Ms Senior for all the lessons you've taught me and all the advice you've given me. In times when I've had a bad day or a bad lecture, I just remember how much faith you've had in me and I keep pushing. You really went above and beyond your duties as a teacher and the impact that has had on both my education and me as a person will literally stay with me forever.
Thanks for keeping in touch, Korede. We’re #ProudToBeHAB of our alumni as they continue their studies beyond HAB!
