Spoken Word Showcase Celebrates HAB Creativity

Spoken Word - Hafsa

Yesterday saw our second Spoken Word Showcase in the library, with ten students reading to an audience of teachers, friends and fellow students who are curious about the spoken word.

We have some fabulous writers here at HAB and we want to give the girls a platform for sharing their work,” says Amy Morris, Head of Learning Innovation.

Hafsa, Year 8, for example (pictured right) read her piece called Correcting Mistakes, which is reproduced at the bottom of this page.

What people said

“Creativity breeds confidence and we want to give the girls a reason to take chances with their writing. The event also inspires other students to start writing so they can take part too.” Ms Harvey

“The experience was absolutely amazing. It was more than I thought possible. I want to thank you for empowering those students to be able to write and speak in such a way. It truly took my breath away to hear such pieces from our girls and watching them deliver them with such comfort and trust in the words that they spoke.” Ms Boswell

“The event is fabulous because it gives students a platform to share their work and receive the praise they deserve.” Ms Sillars

Amina, one of the performers, said she was 'honoured' to take part in the event.

Correcting mistakes, by Hafsa, Year 8

Making a mistake is ok, and I'm sure we've all been told this.

Whether from your teacher your carers or your siblings, but what if I told you that making mistakes will only lead to failure,

They will only open the doors to regret, unless you correct,

Fix them,

Unless you practice those mistakes, remember them, cherish them with every bit of power in your body,

Because success,

Success is the creation off the correction of mistakes,

Do it now before it's too late,

When I say late I don't mean time, I mean the burying of these uncorrected mistakes,

Because once you leave them without correction they sink into the centre of your heart,

And once digested are turned into guilt and depression,

Into something,

Something that you not,

But this doesn't mean that it'll die forever,

There is a way,

But you need to have the patience and time,

To dig the hole back up and only then will it become alive,

Don't see it as an enemy see it as a friend,

Raise it, Teach it, Give it a life,

Only you have the power to control when it's late.

One thing left to say,

Correct your mistakes.
