Mock Trial - Report by Thien and Ilham, Year 10
Students Thien and Ilham, Year 10, on a mock trial event to teach students more about law.
Last Friday, Year 10 Harris Experience students spent a day at Harris Greenwich for a mock trial event.
We worked with law students to learn about the legal process, exploring a range of jobs within legal services as well as types of crimes and laws. We were also able to debate with other schools on topics such as capital punishment which allowed us to develop our debating skills.
Towards the end of the day, we studied a real case that would be the topic of the mock trial. We were given the opportunity to take on different roles in the trial such as the clerk, complainant and defence lawyer. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and some of us are considering a career in the law industry.
Analytical skills
We gained an insight into what a career in law would look like and found the day to be an eye-opening experience in which we learnt different qualities needed to be a good lawyer such as good communication skills, analytical skills and perseverance.
“The mock trial was an interesting trip where we practiced our debating and oral skills, and the mock trial that all the Harris schools took part in made it exciting for us,” said Fawzia, Year 10.
