Mentors from Business
Great opportunities at Harris Academy Bermondsey
The Harris Academy Bermondsey has won national acclaim for its Mentors from Business Scheme. The Prime Minister has praised it on national television and Ofsted inspectors commented favourably when they described this Academy as “outstanding.”
Men and women from top flight City companies are matched, one to one, with girls as they prepare for their GCSE examinations. The meetings, which are held before and after the Academy day, continue every week throughout the years leading up to the examinations.
The fantastic increase in the number of Harris Academy Bermondsey girls achieving the highest grades in GCSE including English and Mathematics is due to the hard work of the girls themselves, the support of their families and to the guidance of their teachers. It is also due to the inspiring support and encouragement they receive from their mentors from business.
Mentors from Universities
The Mentors from Business programme for our senior students is underpinned by a mentoring scheme for younger girls in the Academy.
Undergraduates from the London School of Economics and the London South Bank University meet once a week, on a one to one basis, students in year 9. The aims are to support our students in achieving the highest academic standards. Secondly the aim is to provide guidance about progression to college and university.
Both of these popular schemes are playing their part in increasing the GCSE results of students in The Harris Academy Bermondsey.
