·         A variety of themes are used for students to develop skills in performance, choreography and appreciation. All students also develop an understanding of the historical and cultural nature of different dance styles including Contemporary, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Street Dance, Salsa, Bollywood and African Dance. The Dance department works towards enabling all of our students to develop a broad range of physical skills as well as promoting creativity, confidence and self-discipline.

EDEXCEL Level 2 Extended Certificate BTEC in Performing Arts: Dance - Dance Double Award

 

·         The following units are studied in the BTEC course; Performing Dance, Jazz Dance and Contemporary Dance. Students have the opportunity to develop both their technical and expressive performance skills through challenging dance sequences in various Dance styles. Students also participate in performances to develop these skills. They also develop their evaluative skills by reflecting on their performances and then working towards improving the quality of their work.

AQA GCSE in Dance

·         Students that select Dance at Key Stage 4 also have the opportunity to take part in GCSE Dance where students learn an exam board Set Dance and a performance piece; a group and solo choreography and they develop their appreciation skills in preparation for a written examination.

All students have many opportunities to showcase their talents at HAB throughout the year both inside and outside the classroom.

This Dance Company gives students an opportunity to extend their Dance knowledge beyond the classroom and gain a professional experience of touring. Students will be working with external artists to develop and challenge their skills further.

Students are also given the opportunity to visit live performances to extend their knowledge and understanding of the professional dance world.
