World Book Day Celebrations - Thursday 8 March

We are delighted to announce that we will be celebrating World Book Day this Thursday 8th March, and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your daughter to make the most of this special occasion. This celebration has been reorganised from Thursday 1 March when the school was shut because of snow.

HAB World Book Day 2017 (16)

World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help your daughter progress on her reading journey, she will receive a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of the ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books at http://www.worldbookday.com/books/

Your daughter’s token will be given to her on World Book Day and it can be redeemed at most UK bookshops. Please help your daughter to use the token on or around World Book Day by visiting one of the locally participating shops:

  • The Riverside Bookshop - 57 Tooley Street, Hay's Galleria, Unit 15, London SE1 2HD
  • Dulwich Books Ltd - 6 Croxted Rd, London SE21 8SW
  • Tesco Extra Surrey Quays - Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, Redriff Rd, London SE16 7LL

HAB World Book Day 2017 (10)Dress as a character

In celebration of World Book Day, we are also inviting staff and students to dress as a character or in clothes reflecting a text of their choice. As we are also celebrating the centenary of the Representation of the People Act in which women were first given the right to vote in Britain this year, students are also allowed to dress as an inspirational woman who they look up to.

Your daughter’s choice of clothes for the day must conform to standards of both decency and safety.  The following are not allowed and students will be sent home if they breach these guidelines.

  • Bare midriffs or revealing tops
  • Tops that are off the shoulder i.e. spaghetti straps
  • All clothing above the knee
  • Shorts, flip flops or boots of any kind
  • Large hooped earrings or excess jewellery

HAB World Book Day 2017 (17)This will be a normal Academy day and as such all students must follow the Academy’s Behaviour Policy and take an active role in the day’s learning. The rules concerning mobile phones and electronic equipment are the same – they are not allowed and will be confiscated if brought into the Academy.

Thank you in advance for your support in ensuring your daughter is fully prepared to take part in our World Book Day celebrations!

Kind regards,

Amy Morris
