HAB Girls Get Ready for the Big Outdoors
Last Friday, girls came in during the half term holiday for a Duke of Edinburgh Award training day, in preparation for our camping trip that takes place on 30 June and 1 July.
We're proud of how they all got to grips with working as a team, putting up a tent, cooking on camping stoves, first aid skills and using a compass. Now we can't wait for the real thing!
Iman said: "On Friday I came into school for a Duke of Edinburgh training session for our upcoming expedition. I learnt about first aid, how to put up a tent, how to navigate, and practised cooking a hot meal using a camping stove. From this training session I hope that I will be more organised for the expedition as it allowed me to prepare in advance for the things that may happen during the expedition."

We did an activity which required us to bond with our team and work together to make sure we travelled without coming in contact with the floor. We then went outside to put up tents which required us to work as a team. After we came back inside and we developed our first aid skills and learnt about what we should do in the event of an emergency. Next we went outside to the playground where we learnt to use a Trangia stove to cook our food. Finally we went to the sports ground and we used a compass and a set of instructions which required us to get to a specific point. From the DofE training I hope to develop my camping skills and to use what I've learnt from building a tent on the actual expedition."
