New App Takes Girls to Technology Final

Five Harris Academy Bermondsey students have come up with a new device, called Patch and Track, that allows people to keep track of their personal belongings such as headphones and bags.

A small and discrete disc containing a location sensor can be applied to any personal item. Its location can then be tracked using an app on a device such as a phone or laptop. If you lose something in the park or street, or even at home, it will be easier to find it again!

Apps for Good

The idea is so good that judges chose it as a finalist in the Apps for Good competition, which supports students to make mobile apps, Internet of Things devices and machine learning models to solve problems that matter to them.

The students have now designed a prototype that will be 3D printed, before being programmed, and are now working on an app to connect everything together.

On the day of the final, our girls will refine their pitch with the support of industry experts at digital agency TH_NK, before presenting to a panel of judges at Code Node, Skills Matter in Finsbury Circus.

Come back soon to see how our girls get on at the final.
