The Academy competes regularly against others in the Harris Federation in a variety of sports, most recently in Football and Rounders. The climax of the sporting calendar – Sports Day – is held at Crystal Palace where all twelve Harris Academies come together to compete in traditional Athletics events.
Accreditation:
Throughout Key Stage 4 (years 9 to 11) students can select from a several accredited awards, including Sports Leadership and The Duke of Edinburgh’s award. All students will also work towards gaining a BTEC First qualification in Sport equivalent to one GCSE.
The course they follow encompasses both practical and theoretical elements on the topics of Health & Fitness, Coaching, Leadership, Performance and Outdoor Adventure.
Linking with local primary schools, our students also have the opportunity to develop their leadership and organisational skills by planning and delivery a sports events for the younger children during the course of their programme.
Trips and Visits:
As a team, we believe in offering our students many opportunities to experience Sport and Leisure in ways not possible within the classroom. Trips and visits include a reward trip to see the British Basketball League’s Essex Pirates Team play against the Glasgow Rocks and a sailing and water sports trip to the Isle of Wight. There are many more to come!
