Our aim is to inspire students to be confident, critical and creative thinkers.
Integral to this is the building of a firm foundation in reading, writing and speaking and listening through engaging and active learning and teaching.
KS3 curriculum
The KS3 English curriculum has been designed to excite, stimulate and challenge students so that they develop their skills and acquire new ones in the three key areas of speaking and listening, reading and writing.
Reading is at the heart of what we do in the English Department and a huge range of fiction, non-fiction and media texts forms the basis of this dynamic two year programme. Each unit is based around a central theme. The texts studied will vary at times as there is such a wealth of literature available to ensure that the teaching and learning that takes place is fresh, innovative and topical.
Student progress is assessed regularly.

KS4 curriculum
Building on the skills acquired at KS3, students follow a course leading to GCSE examinations in English Language and Literature. The KS4 curriculum is delivered using a wide variety of creative and interactive learning activities.
Over the three years of KS4, students are encouraged to develop the skills required for examination. They also work on fundamental aspects of grammar and punctuation and learn how to tailor their writing according to audience and purpose.
A wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts is studied from a range of periods and cultures
Particular emphasis is placed on the importance of oral communication as a percentage of the final English grade is awarded for speaking and listening skills.
To find out more you can go to www.AQA.org.uk or speak to an English teacher.
