Admissions
Please note that there will be no change to the Academy's admissions policy for 2011. Our arrangements can be viewed below.
Harris Academy Bermondsey will admit at least 180 girls in Year 7.
If the number of applications exceeds 180, girls with statements of Special Educational Needs in which the Harris Academy Bermondsey is named will be admitted before others.
For the remaining places Harris Academy Bermondsey will seek to ensure that the ability profile of the intake reflects the range of all applicants by employing a Fair Banding System. All applicants must take a non-verbal reasoning (NVR) test that places them in a rank order. We will then place all applicants in one of five ability bands, each containing, as far as possible, the same number of children based on their performance in the NVR test.
Within each of the five bands applicants will be considered in accordance with the criteria below, applied in order:
a) girls in public care;
b) girls for whom admission to a specific school is essential because of special circumstances, to do with significant medical needs, social needs or special educational needs;
c) girls’ proximity to the school using straight-line, computer calculated measurements. d) girls whose siblings currently attend the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission.
Appeals
Parents have the right of appeal to an Independent panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of the Harris Academy Bermondsey.
